Reedy Random Head Start

Sponsored by Elite Physical Therapy

Three weeks prior to race day, the names of one male and one female pre-registered 10K runner from upstate
South Carolina will be drawn at random to have a head start on the 10K field. If either Random Challenger completes the entire 10K course and finishes ahead of everyone, both Challengers will win $500 each. To observe, coach, and help the Challengers with their final three weeks of pre-Reedy training, Elite Physical Therapy's appointed personal fitness specialist will serve as the Official Trainer for the Reedy Random Challengers.

Those eligible to be drawn for the $1000 Challenge will be 10K entrants, ages 18+, residing in the upstate of
South Carolina, who register before February 1, 2010. To determine exactly how much of a head start each Challenger receives, the race director and qualified Elite Physical Therapy associates will assess each Challengers’ athletic ability and his or her potential, in order to make the last quarter-mile of the race very competitive. For the three weeks leading up the race day, the Challengers will be provided, free of charge, a personal trainer, courtesy of Elite Physical Therapy. If both Challengers complete the entire 10K course, comply with all appropriate USATF and RRCA rules, and at least one Challenger beats the elites to the finish line, then each challenger will win $500 cash, to be presented on race day at the awards ceremony. If both Challengers are beaten, the top elite will win a $1000 bonus.

Five Questions for the 2010 Random Reedy Runners

Ken Isett and Miriam Kuharsky

Have you run the Carolina First Reedy River Run before?
Ken: Yes. I only ran the 5K last year. It was the first race I had ever participated in.
Miriam
:  No, this is my first year and my first 10K!

How long have you been running?
Ken
: About 1 year. I've participated in 3 races in that time.
Miriam
: 9 months

Are you from Greenville? If not where are you from?
Ken
: I've lived in Greenville the last 5+ years, but I'm originally from California.
Miriam
: I was born in Canada and moved here when I was a few months old. Been here ever since!

What was your first thought when you were chosen to be a Random Reedy Runner?
Ken
: I first thought "Uh oh, what am I getting into?"  But after everything was explained to me it sounded like a lot of fun. I look forward to the challenge.
Miriam
: Is this a joke? Seriously!

Do you have a favorite running memory?
Ken
: Don't have many of them, but I ran a half marathon in December in Kiawah. I never thought I'd do that but it was fun.
Miriam
: When I finished my first 5K with my best friend, we looked at each other and said....are we done...I want to keep running!

Any other information you would like to share?
Miriam
: I have a 1 year old son Palmer and an amazing husband Skip who's been supportive of my running. You don't think it has anything to do with losing the baby weight, right?
