Reedy Great Youth Mile

The Reedy Great Youth Mile will ahve a new course for 2012. New course map will be coming soon.

Registration is open to runners ages 5-14 years old. All Reedy Great Youth Mile finishers will receive a t-shirt, and awards will be given to the top three overall male and female runners, as well as the top three male and female finishers in the following age groups: 5-6, 7-8, 9-10, 11-12, and 13-14. Race entries will be capped at 1500.

The start of the Reedy Great Youth Mile is at 6:00pm on March 2nd for all age groups together. To enhance safety at the start, runners will be organized in corrals with older age groups in the front and younger age groups in the back. Children must line up with their age group. Although parents are not permitted to run with their young athletes in the Reedy Great Youth Mile, they are invited to wait with them in the start corral until the race begins. There will plenty of volunteer runners at all points on the course to ensure the safety of each participant. Make plans to stay for the awards ceremony, scheduled to begin at 7:00pm.

The Kids’ Marathon
As part of the Reedy Great Youth Mile, the Kids’
Marathon is a youth running program designed to help the children of Greenville County deal more effectively with overweight/obesity conditions by giving them the opportunity to learn daily life fitness skills. The Kids’ Marathon is a part of three Greenville Track Club races:

Carolina First Reedy River Run, March 2 2012

Greer Earth Day Run, April 21, 2012

Spinx Run Fest, October 7, 2012

How does the Kids’ Marathon work? Students in elementary and middle schools are encouraged by their PE teachers to walk, jog, or run 25.2 miles during PE class, before or after school, or at home over the six weeks prior to each event. Each participating student then registers to run 1 mile at the event, thereby completing a full 26.2 miles of training and racing. At the finish line, each Kids’ Marathon participant receives a race medallion or certificate and lots of accolades from family, friends and co-runners.

Fit's Cool School Challenge
The $4,000 Fit’s Cool School Challenge offers two ways for your school’s PTA to win money. The elementary and middle school with the most registrants in the Carolina First Reedy River Run (Reedy Great Youth Mile, 5K, and 10K) will each win $1,000. Based on official student enrollment, the elementary and middle school with the highest percentage of registrants will each win $1,000, as well. The easiest way for you to help your school is to encourage your friends and family to list your school when they register online for one of these three Carolina First Reedy River Run events. The Children's Fun Run is not part of the Fit’s Cool School Challenge.
