Race Directors

Race Director, Joe Lanahan
For over 20 years Joe Lanahan has been active in the running community where he has lived. First, as a high school and college athlete, then as a coach at Heathwood Hall Episcopal School in Columbia, SC and at the University of North Carolina at Asheville. In 2005 Joe accepted a position with the Greenville County Recreation District as Program Manager (duties include overseeing 30+ special events and 11 summer camps). This made, Mrs. Lanahan, Margaret, very happy because it meant moving back to her home town. Since 2005 Joe has been looking for a way to be involved with the Greenville Track Club. So in June of 2009 when the Track Club approached him about Directing the Carolina First Reedy River Run, he jumped at the opportunity.

“To be asked to be involved in the biggest event that the Track Club has is a huge honor. My goal is to continue the wonderful work that Sam Inman and all the past directors have done.” Joe Lanahan said.

The entire Lanahan family will have a part in the events at the Carolina First Reedy River Run. 5 year old Elise will run the mile, 2 year old Ben will stride his way through the Fun Run, and Margaret will be towing the line in the 10k (assuming a babysitter can be found).

Assistant Race Director, Jeff Poole

Jeff is a Greenville native and avid runner and triathlete. He has been involved in endurance sports for the last 18 years, completing 5 marathons and an Ironman triathlon, among numerous shorter races. Prior to his involvement in the Carolina First Reedy River Run, he volunteered with the Orangeburg Striders Running Club and served as co-director of the Festival of Roses Road Races.

Kids' Races, Joe Hammond

For six years Joe has been the director of the All-Comers Track Meets at Furman University, and he is a former assistant-director of the Spinx Run Fest.  He has twin sons, age 9, who have encouraged him to do his best for the Reedy Great Kids' Mile and Children's Fun Run.

Post Race Coordinator, Alexis Sears
Alexis is a senior marketing major at Clemson University. She has lived in Greenville with her family for the past thirteen years and loves the upstate.  After college she plans on pursuing a career in event planning and is excited to be involved with the Reedy River Run.

Greenville Track Club

The Greenville Track Club, established in 1972, is the fastest growing running club in the Southeast! First staged by the GTC in 1977, the Carolina First Reedy River Run is now one of the premier road races in the country. But don't take our word for it.
